Issos beach
One of the most stunning areas for a cycling excursion on the island is Issos, an extensive stretch of virgin land with golden sand and impressive sand dunes, earning it the nickname “the Sahara of Corfu.” Additionally, Issos is strategically located right in front of Lake Korission, the most significant wetland on the island. Starting from the northern part of the beach, the famous cedar forest extends along a narrow strip of land between the lake and the sea, culminating at the nearby beach of Chalikouna.
In the Issos region, with its shallow and crystal-clear waters, you can enjoy a cycling adventure, while the shaded areas with sand dunes provide ideal spots for rest and picnics. It is an area that boasts natural beauty and interest, making it perfect for cycling excursions with views of the combination of the lake, the sea, and the sand dunes.
The entire area is protected (Natura 2000), ensuring the absence of further infrastructure. Restaurants are available only in the neighboring village of Agios Georgios Argyradon.
Issos is an area that should not be overlooked for a cycling exploration. Better yet, we recommend staying until late to savor the unique sunset over the sand dunes.
